The name says it all really. 4 hanger like rooms of stalls selling discount fabrics, sewing machines, wool, thread, papers, buttons. It was very hard work as it was rammed full of middle aged to elderly women lulling around trying to get a bargain.
The final room was an exhibition of established craftspeoples work and a few students work. I got to see some real Tilleke Schwartz which was great as I've liked her work for some time.
I also discovered Julie Arkell...
you weren't allowed to take photos of the work in the exhibition, but heres an image I found online..

"Words and phrases I hear, read and put together inspire my creatures. I use paper and glue to mould the figures. Sometimes they have wool features, doll heads, or painted faces. Their arms and legs can be papier mache or plastic, taken off old dolls and re-assembled. The clothes they wear are knitted, sewn and crocheted, with parts of their story embroidered on to them. Houses, boats, trees, chairs and prams are constructed to make up their environment."
Shes a folk artist, Her work was very twee.. and I'm not usually a fan of twee-ness, I find it a little bit fake, boring, un-imaginative and cliche. Alot of it was sickly emotional and personal, but some of it was really clever and there were lots of great ideas.. such as bracelets which were made to look like watches, and a shelve of knitted creatures in jars, made to look like scientific research.
I guess it mostly pleased me because it reminded me of the creepy character work of Brazilian street artist twins Os Gemeos..

I bought these origami papers anyways. I love patterns, esp. Japanese..

And I also bought this, which was crafted by nuns in a nunnery...

It feels kind of creepy now I have it in my home..I have a thing for catholisism, although I'm not in any way religious. I love religious icon imagery.
Anyway,,It all became too much for me so I headed into the town centre of Harrogate as I've only been a few times as a child. Its kind of a poor man's York... very beautiful and picturesque, but without so much of the historic vibe of York. Some nice little shopping arcade areas, reminiscent of the ones in Leeds. I found this in one shop..

The little sushi bits! They were only there for decoration, they were kinda knitted/crochet-ed (how do you even spell that??) amazing.
